We started to make a simple dinner in the dramatic area and it lead to a full party in the classroom.
Some children were washing dishes to prepare for the party
Others decided we needed decorations
Some children were making the party list and using the word wall to help them spell their friends names
Children were busy at the art studio making gifts for the party
Beginning to use letters to represent words. When asked, this student said her banner said "welcome to the party!"
Decorations complete!
Even outfits were being made for the event!
The party was going to be for the babies and birthday hats were a must
Together we discovered that if we cut a circle we could make a cone shape for the hat. This idea was suggested from another friend. Brilliant!
List complete
Mailing invitations
Hats done!
Table set!
Babies ready in their highchairs
Another student made chair covers! They were amazing!
Did we mention it was a surprise party!
For Mr. Mills!
It is not a party without a dance floor
Great party..this is the garbage pail..we must clean up after a party.
This learning opportunity invovled the entire class. The children were so excited and together with the teacher created the party. They were problem solving, cutting, pasting, writing, including math concepts such as couting, measuring, communicating, dancing, using oral language, referencing the word wall and most of all having fun while learning.
