Welcome

I encourage you to use this blog with your child. Have them explain to you what they were doing, learning, exploring, creating etc. Use this as an opportunity to talk about school and to allow your child to reflect on their day.

Tim Hortons

The children were always playing Tim Hortons at activity time. Based on this interest we decided to take the learning further and created our very own classroom Tim Hortons. Watch how every step of the process was created by the children and guided by the teacher.

They created the sign by looking at the logo on the Tim Horton cup
All the items that were donated we placed in the middle of the carpet. Together the children decided how they were going to organize the materials. This is a math concept sorting and classifying.

The writing continued with the menu for the Tim Horton. Some children were cutting out pictures that were downloaded from our classroom computer.
They began to paste the pictures and write the words for each item on the menu
They continued writing while creating the labels for the shelves at the Tim Hortons
Some children decided that they wanted to use items from the art studio to make soup
A child friendly recipe was made so that the children could read and understand the steps to make play-doh. We made chocolate and vanilla play-doh for the bake goods.

mmm looking good. Next step cook the play-doh in the microwave
 The finished product!!

Time to start the sales. We have our first worker at "Tim's"
 The first customer
 Employee of the month
The sales increased as the day went on
 Shift change
The bakery was very busy making many tim bit orders
 Drinks were being served

The construction workers from the block centre went to Tim Hortons on their break

The learning that went into this event was amazing.
